Which German Therme Suits You? A 4-Question Chooser

A free tool from HealthMotiveHub, built from the venues’ own published house rules; we have not visited these baths for this tool and nobody paid to be in it. German Thermen do not share one rulebook: the minimum age for the sauna area, whether there is a women-only day and whether there is a sauna you can use in a swimsuit all differ from house to house. Answer four questions and the chooser picks the best fits from eleven venues, each linked to the page where its rules are quoted.

1. Where will you be?
2. Who is coming?
3. How do you feel about textile-free saunas?
4. What kind of day?

How this chooser works

Four questions, eleven venues. Each venue in the list carries a few facts taken from its own published house rules, opening hours or price list: who may enter the sauna area and from what age, whether there is a women-only day, and whether you can sauna in a swimsuit. The chooser filters by region, then scores each venue on how well those published facts fit your answers, and shows the two best fits with the guide pages where every fact is quoted and linked to its source.

It does not rank venues by quality, size or price, and nobody paid to be in it. We have not visited these baths for this tool; it is built from what the venues publish. A venue that is not in the list is not a worse venue. It is one whose rules we have not read and cited yet.

The three things that decide most first visits

Age limits. Germany has no national minimum age for saunas. Each house sets its own, and they differ by more than a decade: Therme Erding admits nobody under 16 to its sauna world, Saarland Therme sets 18 outside its Wednesday family day, and Watzmann Therme lets 6- to 15-year-olds in with an adult. If you are travelling with children, this question matters more than any other. The full table is on our age limits page.

Textile-free. In most German sauna areas, swimwear is not allowed in the cabins and you wear a towel or robe when you walk around; the house rules we have read say so explicitly. That is not the same as a naturist facility, and Therme Erding and Mauritius Therme both say so in their own rules. If a swimsuit matters to you, look for a separate textile sauna area, like the VitalOase at Therme Erding. The details are in our German sauna rules.

Women-only days. Many public saunas run one day a week for women only, usually called Damentag. Munich’s municipal baths spread it over seven pools and four weekdays. Two things to check: it is often suspended on public holidays and in school holidays, and women-only does not always mean women-only staff. See women-only sauna days in Germany.

Limitations

Rules, prices and opening days change, and the sign at the entrance overrides anything written here. Prices for Therme Erding were taken from its price page on 7 October 2026; the other venue facts were last checked in September 2026. This page is a planning aid, not medical advice: if you are pregnant, have a heart condition or take blood-pressure medication, ask your doctor before using a sauna.
