Who it suits — and who should skip it
This is for the specific ache of a desk job: the band across the shoulders and up the neck that builds by mid-afternoon. Shiatsu nodes plus heat is the format most people mean when they say they want a massager, and it works over clothing on a sofa. · the evidence on acupressure mats
Skip it if you wanted something cordless to take to the office — it is corded, plugged into a wall outlet or the included car adapter. Skip it too if you are looking for targeted work on a single knot; that is what a percussion gun does, and this is a broad, warming device.
Using it without overdoing it
- Fifteen minutes is plenty. These units have an auto-off timer for a reason and longer is not better.
- Keep a layer of clothing between the nodes and bare skin, especially with heat on.
- Let your arms carry the weight through the straps rather than pressing it into your neck. Pressure is what turns a massage into a bruise.
Heat versus pressure
The two do different jobs. Heat increases blood flow and makes tissue more compliant, which is what makes the session comfortable; the kneading is what produces the release afterwards. If you find the device pleasant but ineffective, more heat will not fix it — you need either more pressure or a different tool. If you find it painful, you almost certainly need less pressure, not more heat.
