A good skincare routine doesn’t need ten steps. Dermatologists consistently point to a short, consistent routine as more effective than a large rotating collection of products used inconsistently.
Everything beyond these three — serums, exfoliants, treatments — is worth adding once the basics are consistent, not before.
The ritual itself carries some of the benefit — a few unhurried minutes, morning and night, that aren’t spent scrolling. That small pause is part of why skincare routines are so often cited as a mental-health habit, independent of the products used.
